At Westfield Field Target, Saftey is of the most importance. Due to the club rules, all policies must be followed exactly. They are in place for the benifet of all guests and members and failure to comply with the policies below will not be allowed.

SAFETY RULES
At Westfield, we take safety very seriously. These posted saftey rules are for the benefit of all members and guests. Please follow them for everyones sake. Failure to follow the rules posted will unfortunately and regretably lead to disqualification and ejection from the match.
- All guns must be UNLOADED (no pellet in the breech) UNCOCKED (no tension on the hammer or trigger) and CASED (any hard case, soft case or lane box with the trigger covered) until the shooter is at the firing line.
- All guns must be pointed downrange and in a safe direction while out of the case at the firing line. Guns are only to be loaded just before taking the shot while at the firing line.
- All guns must be fired down range. If the need arises for a discharged shot, not for score, please announce it to the squad and direct the muzzle down range. Do not shoot into the ground in front of you and do not shoot into the air.
- Filling of PCP guns should be done at the firing line. A rack will be provided for your scuba tank allong with the club air that we provide so that filling will be done with the guns unloaded and pointed in a safe direction down range.
- All Shooters and spectators are required to wear EYE PROTECTION at all times. (Eye protection can be anything from a hat with visors to glasses to a patch or hood)
- All guns are to be safety checked after registration and before sight in.
- The matches will be overseen by the Match Director, Assistant Match Director and NRA Certified Range Officer.
Field Target Policies
REGISTRATION - The match shall be open to all competitors 18 years of age or older. Regretfully, being 18 years old is a requirement of the sponsoring club AND the state of MA. "Massachusetts law views air rifles the same as powder burner rifles" All competitors shall register, read Safety rules and sign or complete a Westfield Sportsman’s Club, Inc. Member/Guest Release and Indemnity Agreement prior to any shooting, either sight-in or competition for the event and/or prior to removing any rifle from its case, whether for sight-in or competition in the match. Registration forms will be provided, and it will be the competitor’s responsibility to provide complete information concerning his or her name and address, class and type of rifle being used, sighting device, pellet type and weight, and muzzle velocity of the rifle in that configuration. The Match Director reserves the right to confirm, via chronograph testing, the suitability of the rifle to be used in the match and/or refuse participation based on improper or restricted equipment. Registration begins at 8:30am. No registration will be accepted before that time. All equipment must remain in the vehicles prior to Registration.
CLASSES - Competition will be conducted in the following classes: Pre-Charged Pneumatic (PCP) Rifle; Spring-Piston Rifle; and Hunter Class (PCP or Spring-Piston) Rifle. PCP and Spring-Piston Class competitors may shoot from a seated, prone, kneeling or offhand position at his or her discretion; Hunter Class competitors may shoot from an appropriate seat and may use shooting stick(s) or other rifle support as specified in AAFTA guidelines. PCP and Spring-Piston Class competitors may use any optical sighting device at any power of magnification with rangefinding and scope adjustment allowed; Hunter Class competitors may use any optical sighting device at no greater than 12 power (12X) magnification with rangefinding allowed but no scope adjustments (clicking). Projectiles to be fired in all classes will be lead pellets suitable for the rifle being used.
OFFICIALS - The Club requires three (3) persons to act as officials for a Field Target event. They are:
1) Match Director
2) Assistant Match Director/Registration Administrator
3) Certified Range Officer (WSC volunteer)
The duties of the Match Officials are as follows:
1) Match Director: is responsible for ALL aspects of the match. Match Director will give all competitors an orientation speech, make all decisions concerning suitability of rifles and equipment, equipment rules and any other issues that might arise. He will be giving the primary commands on the firing line, making sure the rules are UNDERSTOOD and FOLLOWED by all competitors.
2) Assistant Match Director/Registration Administrator: is responsible for assisting the Match Director in ALL aspects of the match, and will have authority to assume the Match Director duties in the event the Match Director is called away from the firing line. The Assistant Match Director will also help insure that the safety and match rules are followed. The Assistant Match Director shall also be responsible for management of: entry forms and fees; squad assignments; scoring sheets; making certain all competitors read and sign Member/Guest Release and Indemnity Agreement; final scoring.
3) Certified Range Officer (WSC personnel): is an individual assigned by the club to ensure that CLUB POLICY is followed during the match.
